Marshall University Softball Appoints Aly Harrell as New Assistant Coach

Aly Harrell joins Marshall University’s softball team as the newly appointed assistant coach on Head Coach Morgan Zerkle’s staff, following the official announcement made on Wednesday. With an impressive background as a former standout player at Marshall and a current professional player, Harrell brings valuable expertise to the program.

Coach Zerkle expressed her excitement about having Harrell on the coaching staff, highlighting her deep understanding of the program’s culture and her positive impact on the team. Harrell’s journey as a student-athlete at Marshall and her subsequent professional career serve as an excellent example for the current players.

In 2023, Harrell served as a volunteer assistant with Marshall softball, taking charge of external operations and also serving as the first base coach. As an assistant coach, Harrell will continue overseeing external operations, contributing to the program’s success.

“I am blessed to have this opportunity to work with Coach Zerkle,” Harrell stated, expressing her eagerness to coach and build on the proud traditions of Herd softball and Marshall University.

Harrell’s achievements on the field during her time as a student-athlete at Marshall were remarkable. A 2022 graduate, she was the first student-athlete to win the senior CLASS award and the 2022 Warrior Award. Throughout her Thundering Herd career, she earned four All-Conference and All-Region honors. With 215 starts in 220 total games, Harrell’s performance ranked her among the top active players in various statistical categories.
