Marshall Football Appoints Henry Baker as Assistant Coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Football head coach Charles Huff has named Henry Baker as the co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach for the Thundering Herd.

Baker joins Marshall with extensive experience coaching secondary players, having previously served as the cornerbacks coach for Maryland over the past four seasons.

“We are excited to add the experience, knowledge and character of Henry Baker,” Huff said. “Henry has coached at all different levels and brings a wealth of knowledge and a track record of developing players. We are lucky to have an elite coach and person like Henry.”

During his tenure at Maryland, Baker played a pivotal role in elevating the team’s secondary to national prominence. In 2023, the team ranked third in the nation for interceptions and twelfth in FBS for pass efficiency defense.

Baker’s impact extended beyond the college level, as evidenced by his role in developing NFL talent. Notable players mentored by Baker include cornerback Tarheeb Still, who excelled in interceptions and was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Prior to his stint at Maryland, Baker held coaching positions with NFL teams such as the New York Giants, as well as college programs including North Carolina, Rutgers, and the University of Delaware.

As a former player, Baker brings firsthand experience to his coaching role. He was a standout player at Maryland and later had a brief NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Baker resides in Paterson, N.J., with his wife, Theresa, and their three children.
